Paulie’s Angels is a Youtube series started with my friends and fellow Windham Parks crewmembers. It highlights the talent and love of snowboarding to be found in the Catskills of New York.
Paulie’s Angels is a labor of love done with friends and coworkers in the Terrain Parks crew at Windham Mountain Club. It’s a YouTube series, which allows me the creative freedom to create something to represent my friends’ talents in a way they approve of. Episode II: The Meltdown is a faithful representation of my crew and their attitude. The image is fully unstabilized and every shot is taken hand-held to emphasize the raw and gritty reality of snowboarding in the Catskills.
Music was an important foundation of the video, finding something that represented the crew and the scene was imperative, especially since I made the decision to record without audio to make the snowboarding and music more symbiotic. Snowhio by Big Stink leads, followed by Stage Banter by Aborted Tortoise, Far by Torpedo Lane was a personal favorite as they are a local band out of the Albany region and friends with one of our crew members, and Polluted Minds by Napalm Death rounded out the soundscape to provide a moment of shock and contrast in the finale.
This is my most recent work, which was shot on my A7sII in 120fps to show the dreamy quality of a nature walk. This project was an exercise in color grading to try and show the depths of color to be found in greens, shadows, and flowers even on an overcast day.
